— What PortalCam is built for

Visual-first spatial capture.

PortalCam is not positioned as an engineering point-cloud scanner. XGRIDS designed it around photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting for spaces where visual presence, perspective and immersive presentation matter most.

PortalCam

Capture a place as an experience — not just a collection of photographs.

Walk the space naturally while PortalCam combines LiDAR with a four-camera array. Process the capture in LCC and create a navigable 3D Gaussian model that preserves appearance, lighting and spatial context.

Real Estate Film / VFX Gaming / XR Spatial Content Digital Showcases

PortalCam's official workflow is simple: capture the space naturally, process the data into a 3D Gaussian model, then edit, measure, annotate, publish or integrate the result into a broader content pipeline.

PortalCam is intentionally different from the engineering-focused XGRIDS scanners. The current PortalCam workflow exports LCC and PLY model data; pure engineering point-cloud export is not currently supported.

— What PortalCam creates

A visual model you can move through.

Primary Experience

Photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting

PortalCam captures LiDAR and imagery together so LCC can reconstruct photorealistic spatial scenes with realistic perspective changes as the viewer moves.

During capture

LCC Scan

Connect, control and monitor PortalCam during scanning.

After capture

LCC Studio

Engineering deliverables

Not the main PortalCam role

If the deliverable is a conventional engineering point cloud or mesh, use XGRIDS Lixel K2, Lixel L3 or Lixel L2 Pro instead.

— PortalCam capture hardware

LiDAR for structure. Cameras for appearance.

PortalCam combines a high-rate LiDAR system with two fisheye and two front-facing cameras so the spatial model has both geometry and rich visual information.

— XGRIDS PortalCam FAQ

Choose XGRIDS PortalCam for the right kind of output.

What is XGRIDS PortalCam?
XGRIDS PortalCam is a portable visual-first spatial camera designed to create photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting models for applications such as real estate, film production, spatial showcases, gaming, XR and immersive content.
Does PortalCam create engineering point clouds?
Current XGRIDS documentation positions PortalCam around 3D Gaussian models rather than conventional engineering point-cloud or mesh deliverables. XGRIDS recommends the Lixel K series or L2 Pro when engineering point-cloud or mesh data is required.
What file formats does PortalCam support?
Current XGRIDS documentation lists LCC and PLY export formats. Pure point-cloud file export is not currently supported.
What software does PortalCam use?
PortalCam uses LCC Scan during capture and LCC Studio after capture for 3D Gaussian Splatting reconstruction and downstream model workflows.
How long does PortalCam run on one battery?
A fully charged PortalCam battery provides approximately 60 minutes of operation. XGRIDS recommends keeping individual map collections to 30 minutes or less.
What is PortalCam's LiDAR range?
XGRIDS documents a scanning range of 0.1 to 30 metres at 10% reflectivity and up to 60 metres at 90% reflectivity.
What cameras are inside PortalCam?
PortalCam has four 4000 × 3000 cameras: two fisheye and two front-facing cameras. The fisheye cameras have 200° × 200° fields of view and the front cameras have 100° × 85° fields of view.
How is PortalCam different from XGRIDS Lixel K2, Lixel L3 and Lixel L2 Pro?
PortalCam is optimized for visual spatial capture and photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting. The Lixel scanners are better suited to measurement-driven reality capture, engineering point clouds, mesh, CAD/BIM and related professional deliverables.
